Entry Requirements

Essential: C pass in English at National 4. Preferable: C pass in English or Drama at National 5. All applicants are invited to audition and decisions on entry are based on the quality of performance and potential to develop on the course. The audition process will require you to perform two contrasting monologues and this will be followed by a short interview. Candidates will also be asked to provide a short written critique of a theatrical production that they have attended recently.


This is an introductory course providing an overview of the knowledge and skills related to Acting and Performance, and it is designed to build up a basic skill base with a view to progressing to HND Year 1. The course develops practical skills and enables students to gain a working knowledge in theatrical disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to explore both devising techniques and a variety of textual genres. Successful completion of the NQ course alongside an audition provides priority consideration for entry to the HND Acting and Performance.

Course Content

Course topics include: - Acting, Voice - Movement - Theatre Skills - Preparation for Audition - Theatre Performance - Acting Styles and Practitioners - Theatre History - Technical Theatre in Context


Full Time. 1 Academic Year. August - June. 16 Hours per Week. Applicants wishing to study on a part-time basis will be considered and should provide information on this in their personal statement and at interview.
