Entry Requirements

Entry is by audition only. You will be asked to demonstrate your singing, dance and acting skills at audition which will allow the panel to assess your suitability for the course. Further details about the audition process will be given to you once interviews/auditions are arranged. Higher English and/or Higher Drama/Higher Music are recommended but not essential. Previous performance experience is preferred. We welcome all applications of all levels For this course, if English is not your first language you need to have SQA ESOL Higher (or equivalent, click here to see equivalent qualifications) If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment here at the College.

Description

This vibrant and rigorous HND Musical Theatre programme offers immersive, practical training in Acting, Voice, Singing, Dance, and Movement, preparing you for a wide range of opportunities in the performing arts industry. Guided by our industry-experienced faculty, you will develop both creative and technical skills through individual and collaborative projects which prepares you for transition into the working industry in a variety of capacities. In the HND program you will further develop your creative and performance skills, & work on a variety of creative and prescriptive projects. The Performing Arts faculty at Kelvin work closely with Platform Theatre, where some of our bi-annual productions are staged. Furthermore, we collaborate with industry professionals who will deliver industry relevant workshops, providing you with current industry insights and connections. Our Musical Theatre graduates articulate on some of the most renowned Schools and Conservatoire programs in the U.K. Many of our graduates can be found in current West End runs, UK Tours, Cruise Ships productions, Film/TV work, Directing/Writing work, Arts Facilitation work and Education. This course is highly practical and physically demanding, with activities such as conditioning work, jumps, leaps, turns, lifting, supporting, partnering, floor based activities and intensive movement work integral to the curriculum. A good level of stamina and physical capability is essential for successful participation. The criteria for some units, particularly in Dance and Movement, are determined by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) and cannot be modified. Course Content

Course topics include subjects such as: - Acting technique. - Singing techniques. - Dance techniques. - Voice techniques. - Production & Performance techniques. - Professional Development & Etiquette. - Live Performance techniques. - Theatre Making technique.

Duration

Full Time. 2 Academic Years. August - June. 16 Hours per Week. Applicants wishing to study on a part-time basis will be considered and should provide information on this in their personal statement and at interview.

Progression

You can progress onto further study at HND and BA level, with UHI Perth, at Kelvin or a wide range of other Universities You can transition into the Musical Theatre industry in a range of capacities including, but not exclusively; Musical Theatre Actor, Production creative, Film/TV work, Writing, Directing, Dancer/Choreographer, Cruise Ship Performer, Entertainments Team, Community Theatre, Education and Arts Facilitator.
