Entry Requirements

Relevant National Certificate (NC), National Qualification (NQ) or 2 SQA Highers (one of which should be English or language based). A passion for sport and a good level of fitness is essential. Mature learners with experience but no formal qualifications will be considered on merit. All candidates will participate in a recruitment process.

Thinking of pursuing a career in sports coaching and development? HND Sports Coaching and Development could be the course for you. This programme is designed to offer a 21st century learning and development experience providing a truly blended approach to learning through a combination of College and industry-based work and learning. Upon successful completion of your HNC year you will be offered a guaranteed progression onto your HND or you may decide to leave after one year. Throughout the programme at various stages you will be educated further through mandatory Coach Education courses accredited by a range of governing bodies. Our aim is to help you achieve the required additional industry qualifications and experiences required for a coaching post and further coaching badges beyond giving you the best possible start should you wish to pursue employment, further study or both.

Year 1: - Sports Development - Human Anatomy, Physiology and Biomechanics in Sport - Sports Coaching: Developing Professional Practice - Sports Coaching: Knowing Yourself - Sports Coaching: Knowing Others - Sports Coaching: Knowing Coaching - Personal Development Planning - Work Placement Year 2: - Fitness Conditioning in Sport - Sports Mechanics - Improving Coaching in Sport - Coaching of Sports Performance Development - Sports Development & Research - Coaching & Developing Sport: Graded Units 2 & 3 - Psychology of Sports Performance - Marketing: An Introduction - Nutrition for Fitness, Health & Exercise.

Duration

Full Time. 2 Academic Years. August - June.

Progression

Successful HND students can progress to 3rd year at a variety of Universities including; University of West of Scotland, University of Strathclyde. Employment within the Sport, Fitness and Leisure Industry.
