Description

This NQ level 5 course covers all the subjects required for an NC but also has a strong emphasis on practical skills and is intended for those interested in developing skills for a career in the fast developing mechanical and manufacturing engineering industry. The course is a mix of classroom work and practical activities in our brand new laboratories. Assessment comprises both short written tests and laboratory assignments. The course finishes with a hands on project. This year our students are building and racing robot cars. Bursary students are given their own set of tools to keep and kits of parts to build a range of projects such as amplifiers, power supplies, and test instruments.

Course Content

Mechanical/Manufacture Theory, plus hands on practical work. Mechanical/Manufacture Theory: - Mechanical Engineering Principles - Engineering Manufacture Principles - Engineering Materials - Mathematics - Computer aided Draughting (CAD) Practical hands on work: - Material Removal Practice (Turning &Milling) - CNC Machining - Engineering Workshop Skills - Engineering, Engineering Project

Duration

Full Time. 1 Academic Year. August - June.

Progression

The NQ Mechanical Engineering qualification should allow you to progress to study our courses such as: the NQ in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (level 6), or the HNC in Manufacture Engineering, or the HND in Mechanical Engineering. You may also be able to gain employment or a Modern Apprenticeship with energy companies, engineering contractors, consulting engineers or local authorities.
