Entry Requirements

An access course is for adults who have been out of education for some time. Access Engineering allows progression to engineering based HE (HNC/D or Degree level) courses after 1 year of study. Entry to the course is by competitive interview. A short numerical and written assessment task will form part of the recruitment process in order to ensure you are placed on the best course for you. Applicants should provide information on relevant life and employment experience within their personal statement, in addition to demonstrating a genuine interest in the subject.

Description

This course is designed in conjunction with the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) to enable adult learners with no formal qualification to prepare, in one year, for entry to a Degree/HND/HNC course in engineering. The course will allow you to study subjects and gain recognised qualifications in maths, physics, IT and communications. The course will focus on articulation to The Engineering Academy (run in conjunction with the University of Strathclyde) however progression to other universities is possible. The course is intensive and requires a full time commitment. It is not possible, due to the nature of the programme, to complete it on a part time basis. Course Content

A wide variety of units will be covered including; - Maths - Physics - Communications - IT. Candidates must possess strong mathematical skills.

Duration

Full Time. 1 Academic Year. August - June. Up to 21 Hours per week (plus tutorials, additional units and personal learning). Due to the nature of this course part time study is not available.

Progression

Progression is possible in an engineering discipline. Previous learners from this course have progressed to degrees in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and electronic engineering. Other learners have also successfully progressed to HNC and HND programmes in these areas.
