Entry Requirements

What you need to qualify for entry... Minimum of 4 passes at Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade Credit Level, ideally to include Maths and English. Other subjects could be Music, Physics, Graphic Communications, Computing or a technical subject. Entry is by interview and you may be asked to produce a written piece of work as part of the interview. Applications from mature learners without formal qualifications are welcome. If you do not have an equivalent qualification, relevant industry experience will be taken into account but, most importantly, you have to be enthusiastic and want to study Audio Visual Design/Sound Production. You are asked to bring your certificates with you to interview and, if possible, a reference.

Description

Do you want to be … working in the live music industry? Working with multimedia? Becoming an Audio Visual Systems Engineer? Pursuing an exciting, challenging career in a diverse and ever-changing industry? Yes? Audio Visual and Sound Design might just be the one for you. The NQ Audio Visual Design Course is designed to introduce you to and help you develop a range of specialist skills to prepare you for further study in Sound Production or TV and Film as well as a wide range of careers in these industries. You could be working in Recording Studios, Theatres, Live Sound, Radio, Audio Post Production, Sound Installations and Sound for moving image. You will have access to first-class recording studios using industry-standard hardware and software. We also have ‘Adobe Creative Cloud’ which will give you access to all the well-known programs such as ‘Photoshop’, Audition’, ‘Illustrator’, ‘Premier’ and many more. You will work on projects with other students in the Faculty, including Music Performance, TV Production and Sound Production. These projects will give you an invaluable insight into many other areas which support the audio-visual role. You may also be involved with students from other Faculties as well as external projects, working with companies in a diverse range of sectors..

Duration

Full Time 1 Academic Year from August – June. If you wish to study on a part-time basis we can consider this and you should provide information on this in your personal statement and at interview.

Progression

Successful completion of the NC can lead to further study on an HNC/D in an area like Sound Production, Music Business and possibly Music (if you play an instrument).
